This week I have had the joy of borrowing this hand crafted violin to photograph it. This is handmade by Lethbridge Musical Instruments. It features an Engelmann spruce top, sugar maple back, neck, and ribs, macassar ebony fingerboard and fittings, and black willow corner blocks and bass bar. As always, it's got a layer of his quartz-based ground coat, but this one received a specially-processed oil varnish which sets it (and its one-piece back) apart from anything he has done before. Also worth noting: this violin hasn't seen a single powertool over the course of its production. I couldn't resist the opportunity to get some product images of it, and I am so grateful to know some of the people I do. Thank you Taylor for the chance, and for the craftsmanship you provide.

Saturday was a night of learning. I learned that no, not everything will go to plan. But I also learned how to make the very best of what seemed like a hopeless situation. I just realized now that I never published this post and it's been sitting in my drafts. Time flies when your having fun! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the day, I have been shooting behind the scenes and products for the Trillium Hunter Jumper Association at Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Park. At night however, Megan and I have turned our hotel room into a studio. What else would I do anyways!? Here are some portraits from the corner of the room. As I promised, a month or so ago, I would publish my series on the eye of a horse. "From Their View" is about what we see through the eyes of a horse, and what they show back to us. These trusting creatures have more to show us than it appears on the outside. Maybe looking in at what they see in us will help as we understand them more. There are currently three images ready in this grouping, but more will come as I continue to work with them. These images, and when the rest come, can be found under the "Equine" tab, in the Section "From Their View"
So I held off the cat photos for as long as I could, but I'd like you to meet Odie and Loki, the two members of my crazy cat lady starter kit! Neither are purebreds, just very small domestic shorthairs. I got Odie when he was eight weeks old, from a friend. I never told my parents, and slowly moved in the litter box, food, and toys into my closet in the week or two leading up to his move in. He'll be three in April. He is like his journey home, slow, quiet, and sweet. Loki, on the other hand, showed up on his own. The neighbour's cat was "playing" with him on my front lawn, and he was almost run over when chased onto the road. My mom was just coming home, and he followed her to the backstop, and I took him in. We asked around, but nobody claimed him, so he's been with us for just over a year now. [no clue how old he actually is, he stayed small ] He is fast, sneaky, and always up to something. [and never anything good!] So here they are! So here they are!
My studio fun turned out really well in my opinion. A more fine art twist on a standard sporting goods shot- selective focus, patterns, a shallow depth of field.... I think its fun. I have one more that has a different style, but it's still in the works. So keep coming back, I'm sure there will be more! |
