Here's Blair! As I mentioned before, it was fantastic to work with him.
And yes- the fire is real, and shot in camera, with him, all at the same time.
This is basically how it looked directly in camera, i only did some minor retouching, and some sharpening to achieve this. I used Speedotron lighting equipment, a Hassleblad H3D camera and 120mm lens
Initially, we had planned to do a bottle smashing theme for this project.
But Blair and I both wanted to do a flame, and we managed to get it in at the end of the day.
Here are some behind the scenes of the studio shoot (during practice bottle drops).
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
PS. Please don't judge my rain boots- its slushy outside.
I also had three assistants with me -
Nirvanie ( http://nirvaniesrikishun-photography.tumblr.com ) - who captured these lovely BTS shots,
Kristi ( http://www.kristirexphotography.com/index.html ) - who is running the Phocus capture for me,
and Tammy, Blair's lovely wife, who got the honours of dropping the glass over her hubby's head!
This week in the studio, I got the privilege of working with a Canadian stuntman, who still works in the industry.
Blair Johannes - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0998942/ - has worked on a ton of big pictures and TV shows over the years (I am also pretty sure he is the zombie on the DVD of Dawn of the Dead ). Yet he was a little nervous of the tiny studio, and being the star of the show for me!
And I was scared as hell to work with him!
Despite having everything go wrong (studio changes do to double booking, tripod breakdown, equipment issues, and all the tricks to get this kind of shot, ) we had a lot of fun, and did some work that most people don't normally get the chance to do.
It was an amazing learning experience as well.
Blair is great to work with. He was super patient with me and all the technical issues, and really tried his hardest to help me get exactly what I wanted. Little did he know he was already doing me a massive favour by even showing up and giving me his precious time. (3 hours of it, plus travel, to be exact).
I have a little more editing to do to clean it up a bit, and I will share when its all done!
